Image title

Sure, you can drive around your own neighborhood to look at holiday lights, but if you really want to see something really spectacular, you need to go big. And while most of us are busy right up until Christmas day, these displays will be up a few more days after Christmas and chances are they will be less crowded then too. You never know.  Here is where to find the best displays in the greater Seattle area.

Open Now Through December 30

This year marks the Bellevue Botanical Garden’s 24th annual Garden d’Lights, a beautiful display that is not as crowded as some of the other spots in town. The displays include special creations of plants, flowers birds, animals, waterfalls and even an impressive dragon. Live music is also being performed most nights, snacks and beverages will be available and the gift shop will be open for last minute Christmas purchases as well. The lights will be on from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. each night including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Admission is $5 for anyone over the age of 10. Kids younger than that get in free! Save yourself some time by ordering your tickets online ahead of time. Parking at the Botanical Garden for $5 too or park for free at Wilburton Hill Park. And before you leave, be sure to visit the Aaron Education Center to see the amazing Gingerbread Village.

Clam Lights

Ivar’s restaurants have sponsored this light-tastic affair for many years. Light displays are presented all across the park’s grounds along a one mile paved trail including the “walking clams” display. Featuring over 200,000 bright lights, Clam Lights is being presented every night from 5:00-9:00 p.m. from now until January 1st. And the best part is that viewing them is free! Even the parking is free. Even better, the Argosy Christmas Ship Parade passes next to the water walk nightly too! It’s like two light shows for the price of none!

More than 600,000 lights are on display recreating wild animals and the wild places where they live. While many of the zoo’s animals will be asleep, select indoor exhibits will be open to see meerkats, sloths, fruit bats and other nocturnal animals. Families can warm up in the indoor Snow-mazium where kids can build a snow creature, hear a snowy story and take part in a snowball fight with super-soft “snowballs.” Or warm up outdoors around fire pits sipping spiced hot cider, or cold beer and wine. You can snack on fresh, hot donuts as well. The displays are lit up nightly from 5:30-8:30 p.m. from now until January 5, 2019 (except for December 12, 24 and 25). Tickets are $11.95 for adults and $9.95 for kids if purchased by December 13. Tickets jump to $14.95 and $11.95 respectively on December 14.

Other attractions include camel rides, warm snacks and hot beverages and carousel-riding. While you’re there, check out the 16 South Pacific Aquarium sharks, the meerkats and feed goats.
